This year’s #GivingTuesday will occur on November 28th and will be here before you know it. It’s #GivingTuesday! Today is all about celebrating each and every single act of generosity we have to offer. Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor out, or showing up for an issue or people we care about, we each have something to contribute. Identify your gifts, pick a cause that gets you fired up, and give back – not just today but every day.

Online directories like Charity Navigator and Guidestar by Candid are helpful for learning more about organizations in your region and/or interest area. These virtual platforms also typically include information such as ratings, location, status (i.e., whether it is a 501c3 registered nonprofit), if donations are tax-deductible, quick summaries of their impact, and results.

Some GivingTuesday country movements also publish directories of organizations. To help you prepare, we have compiled a list of our top six priorities to inspire you to donate today or on #GivingTuesday to continue supporting the women of the project.

The Challenge

For seven years, the Zimbabwe Farm Project, Inc. has served an essential role in the rural agricultural community outside of Harare, Zimbabwe, in the Mazowe region. Our women’s empowerment initiatives have uplifted from poverty hundreds of women. We recognized that our efforts began an ongoing humanitarian and human rights challenge.

How We Do It

Commitment to Career Growth and Training: We strongly emphasize providing training and opportunities for career growth in sustainable agriculture and organic farming. This commitment reflects our dedication to empowering women in the agricultural sector.

Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility: Our program initiatives are rooted in the principles of sustainability and environmental responsibility. This includes introducing technology to optimize growing cycles and encouraging eco-friendly practices like waste reduction and resource conservation through permaculture techniques.

Financial Support and Empowerment: Through donor financial support, we can guarantee an income for the women involved in the project, especially throughout the harvest cycle, to help sustain their families. Additionally, providing organic farm produce and eggs for personal use demonstrates a holistic approach to our beneficiary support model.

Sustainable Agriculture and Renewable Energy: Our organization is focused on sustainable agriculture powered by renewable energy sources. This reduces the environmental impact, sets an example for others in the local agricultural industry, and reduces our carbon footprint.

Promoting Self-Reliance and Leadership: Our mission extends beyond providing aid; it aims to create job opportunities, promote self-reliance, and empower women to become community leaders.

Partnerships and Self-Sufficiency: We emphasize the importance of partnerships as an alternative approach to traditional humanitarian aid, aiming to reduce dependency. By doing so, you aim to enable program beneficiaries to achieve self-sufficiency, empowerment, self-determination, and freedom.

The Solution

You can give through our partnership with Network for Good to ensure that your gift directly benefits the women and the programs that you are interested in supporting. Whether it is improving the sanitation on the farm or paying the wages of the ladies, you can designate how you would like your donation to be used.

The Result

The overarching goal of these resources will be to support the women in addressing the humanitarian needs of women in the agrarian community we support through direct assistance and training at a grassroots level that is focused on capacity building, convening, and infrastructure development.
